STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island Museum is hosting a series of hands-on summer workshops for adults, featuring unique experiences from jewelry design to clothing repair.

The “Summer Nights” series will continue on July 24. Artist Jocelyn Mackenzie will lead an “Upcycled and Recycled Jewelry” workshop, where participants can learn to create distinctive pieces from found objects such as old keys, stones, vintage jewelry and recyclables. Attendees are encouraged to bring items they’d like to transform into wearable art.

The series continues on Aug. 7 with “Darn It! Visible Mending,” a workshop focused on repairing clothes with creativity and intention. Participants will learn traditional techniques, including darning, sashiko, and patching to extend the life of beloved garments that might otherwise end up in landfills.

All workshops are for guests 18 and over, with registration required through the museum’s website. Each session costs $35, or $30 for museum members, and includes museum admission. The Staten Island Museum is located on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Livingston. Free onsite parking is available.
