STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — When the world was told to stay home, medical professionals, support staff and first responders at Richmond University Medical Center went to work — tackling the terrifying uncertainty of the coronavirus COVID-19 virus head-on with dedication and compassion in an effort to save the lives of their neighbors.

From the very first days of what became a global pandemic, they were but a small part of an experience that shook the world in March 2020 and cost nearly two million lives before the World Health Organization declared an end to the public health emergency three years later.

On Wednesday, RUMC President and CEO Daniel Messina, along with representatives from the Staten Island Museum, David Henry Marketing and Media and the hospital’s auxiliary, unveiled a new exhibit honoring those workers during a ribbon-cutting event just beyond the lobby of the West Brighton hospital.
