This family event is a tribute to freedom, unity, and the power of storytelling. All materials are provided, including snacks. Join us for this inspiring day of events!
- 12:00pm – Performance by Daland Jones presented by Opera Exposures. Daland Jones is a celebrated lyric baritone and dedicated music educator. Renowned for his warm, rich, and velvety voice, Daland Jones has captivated audiences worldwide.
- 1:00pm – Pop-up exhibition Rhythms of Change: An Altered Books Project.Developed and led by artist Caryn T. Davis in partnership with the Staten Island NAACP Youth Council, Rhythms of Change (ROC) brought together participants to create “altered books”—existing books transformed through collage, folding, drawing, and mixed-media design through the theme of music for social change.
- NY International Children’s Film Festival: Celebrating Black Stories– special screening of award-winning short films for kids 8+ that share the joy, determination, resilience, and complexity of being young and Black.
- Hands-on art workshops
- Free admission to the museum including the new exhibition: Staten Island Making History
