SUMMARY:Celebrate Staten Island Is Ours! An Altered Book Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Free with Museum Admission \nJoin us in celebrating this new exhibit! Young people from the Staten Island Urban Center worked with artist Caryn T. Davis and public historian Debbie-Anne Paige to create unique works of art based on the history of Black communities on Staten Island. Students altered and reinterpreted preexisting books\, recycling them into an artistic form with their own photographs\, collages\, paintings\, and drawings. Their altered books serve as a vehicle for personal\, and creative expression reflecting on Staten Island’s unique history. \nArtists: Simi Abedayo\, Chelsea Jones\, Jaylette Jones\, Tecumsay Morris\, Ania Nixon\, Ayven Pabellon\, and Malasia Reed. \nThis project was supported by a DCA Premier Grant from Staten Island Arts\, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
