The Staten Island Museum (legal title Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences) is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust, and accordingly maintains the following privacy policy to protect personal information you provide online.
Basic Confidentiality Policy
It is the Museum’s policy that personal information, such as your name, postal and e-mail address or telephone number, is private and confidential. Accordingly, the personal information you provide is stored in a secure location, is accessible only by designated staff, and is used only for the purposes of which you provide the information (such as to reply to your request or to mail your membership card). If you also indicate on the Museum’s web site that you would like to receive information about other programs and services, such as email alerts, publications, or membership your personal information will be added to appropriate Museum mailing lists. You can indicate your desire by sending an e-mail. If at any time you change your mind and would like to add or remove your name from the Museum’s mailing list, or correct your personal information, please e-mail info@statenislandmuseum.org or call 718.727.1135 ext. 114. In addition, you may opt-out of any automated e-mails by following the instructions at the bottom of such e-mails.
Record Keeping
If you have requested to be on the Museum’s mailing list your name, postal and e-mail address and/or telephone number, and your program interests if specified will be added. If you make a contribution, become a member, or participate in Museum programs, we may keep a record of your contribution to acknowledge it, solicit contributions, and mail and e-mail program notices such as Program Calendars and Invitations to Exhibition Openings. Unless otherwise instructed, the names of donors with accumulated gifts and membership contributions of $100 or more are acknowledged in the annual report.
Release of Information to Third Parties
Your name and address will not be shared with other organizations. Your personal information will not be released to third parties unless it is required by law or is pertinent to judicial or governmental investigations or proceedings.
No Web Site Tracking of Identifiable Information
The Museum’s website is not set up to track, collect or distribute personal information about visitors (except as noted on the following paragraph). However, the web site does track anonymous information about page views. For example, statistics that show the daily number of visitors, daily requests received for particular files, and what countries those requests come from are recorded. These aggregated statistics are used internally to better provide services to the public and may also be provided to others, but again, the statistics contain no personal information and cannot be used to gather such information.
Information Gathered and Security Measures to protect our Donor’s Privacy
The Museum collects personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide through the Museum’s site. For example, the Museum collects personal data when you fill out a member registration form, sign up for a program or event, subscribe to an e-mail newsletter, submit a request for information, complete a survey, or make a donation or purchase. The types of personal data that the Museum collects include: Name, postal address, e-mail address, and telephone number.
This personal data is used for the purposes for which you provide it and for other purposes unless you specifically ask to be excluded from, including:
• To fulfill orders for membership, services or products
• To manage memberships and other subscriptions to our services
• To process registrations for events, courses and other activities
• To personalize services provided to Museum members and visitors to the Museum’s site
• To promote our other activities, services or products to you
• To send communications to you on behalf of other organizations that we believe may be of interest. However, the Museum will not share or sell such personal information, whether collected online or offline, with anyone else. The Museum will also not send its donors mailings on behalf of other organizations unless the donor has given specific permission to do so.
The Museum may also collect personally identifiable information that you provide about other parties. The Museum uses this information only for the purpose for which you originally provide it. For example, if you submit another party’s e-mail address in order to have material from the Museum’s site forwarded to them (also known as an “email-a-friend” feature), the Museum will keep the other party’s e-mail address for this purpose.
The Museum uses the information you provide for internal purposes, such as completing and tracking your transaction, analyzing trends, and collecting statistics.
The Museum makes every reasonable effort to ensure all of the transactions made on its website are secure. All credit card numbers submitted to the site are encrypted using a “Secure Socket Layer” (SSL) encryption. SSL technology is an industry standard for protecting sensitive information transmitted over the Internet. To prevent unauthorized access and maintain data accuracy, the Museum has put in place appropriate electronic and administrative procedures to safeguard the information collected online.
