Staten Island Museum establishing a legacy for Edith Susskind’s porcelain collection

Edith and Alfred Susskind Gallery of Decorative Art

Edith Susskind and her  husband were serious collectors of porcelain, mostly 18th and 19th Century English Worcester ware, with some Chinese celadon and Sevres. Before her passing earlier this year, Edith made arrangements for much of her prized collection to be given to the Staten Island Museum.

Her collection will be housed in Building A, the Museum’s new home, ready for occupancy later this year at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center.

The Museum is launching a $250,000 fundraising campaign in Ms. Susskind's honor.

Museum President & CEO Elizabeth Egbert explained “We know that there are friends of Edith’s who are looking for ways to celebrate her life and  honor her legacy,” she said. “We hope that they’ll consider helping us to establish “Edith and Alfred Susskind Gallery of Decorative Art” with the kind of style that Edith would have enjoyed.

SUPER SPORTS TRIVIA

Remembering Edith Susskind

Remembering Edith Susskind

Community leader Edith Susskind, Staten Island's grande dame and longtime gift specialist renowned for her creativity, decorating designs and fashion prowess, especially for her collection of her high-style hats, has passed. Her age was 93.

Born Edith Rivkin in New Brighton, Mrs. Susskind, often maintained that she found it difficult to believe --and perhaps thought it to be some sort of miracle -- that she was still here and able to celebrate milestone anniversaries each year at her annual Open House, first in the West Brighton shop gifted to her as an anniversary present by her late husband Alfred and later in Cottage 5, adjacent to the Chinese Scholars Garden at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Livingston, where a portion of her great porcelain collection was donated to Snug Harbor.
