The Old Mill

An engraving after a painting of the same title that Jasper Cropsey completed in 1847.  This engraving was published in a book of engravings titled "Une Centaine de Peintre" (A Hundred Paintings) that was published by George Barrie of Philadelphia around 1900.

Robert Hinshelwood (1812-1879) emigrated to America from England in 1835.   Hinshelwood lived in New York City, worked for Harper's Weekly, and was married to the sister of the artist James Smylie.  He is best known for his landscape paintings, engravings, and etchings.
