Sktech for Old Ferry Landing


A black ink on watercolor paper prepartory sketch for the tissue collage "Old Ferry Landing" (A1962.17) that won the Staten Island Museum's Purchase Prize in 1962. 

Samuel Adler was born in New York City and raised in St. Louis.   He was admitted to the National Academy of Design at age 13. Adler worked as a professional violinist before devoting himself to painting.   His first one man show was in New York City in 1948. Adler has been frequently exhibited at  the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  He won Staten Island Museum's Purchase Prize in April of 1962 for his tissue collage "Old Ferry Landing".
