Newport Pines

An oil on canvas landscape view with trees.  The Newport referred into the title of the painting is probably in Newport, New York, which is just northeast of Utica and northwest of Schenectady.

Born in New York City, Elihu Vedder was known as a painter of many different subjects and was a leading symbolistic painter. Many of his paintings have dark and tragic themes.  His illustrated publication, Rubaiyat of Omar Khayya, set the standard for artist-designed books.
