Looking Oceanward from Todt Hill


Jasper Crospey, born in Rossville, Staten Island, was first trained as an architect and designed a number of structures. As a landscape painter, he is especially noted for his autumnal views. He was among the most important representatives of the second generation of the Hudson River school. His last works have been called the "swan songs" of this movement in American art.
