Film Talk: Chekhov and Staten Island

Join Marylou & Jerome Bongiorno, Emmy-nominated, award winning filmmakers, as they preview clips from their upcoming fiction film, THE BLACK MONK, inspired by Anton Chekhov's eponymous short story.  The film is set in Staten Island and features iconic sites.  The Bongiornos will discuss the filmmaking and adaptation of a literary classic.

Chekhov scholar, Dr. Nadya Peterson of Hunter College, will discuss the similarities between the film and the short story. History of Medicine scholar, Dr. Brett Palfreyman of Wagner College, will explain the impact of tuberculosis on Chekhov and in the short story, as well as the history of tuberculosis on Staten Island.
