ROOTED in STATEN ISLAND
This year we celebrated the Museum’s founding in natural science and ecological preservation. The event will honored individuals and organizations that epitomize a commitment to Staten Island’s heritage.
(Staten Island, NY – May 16, 2017) Over two hundred and fifty guests braved the rain this past Saturday to support the Staten Island Museum at its Spring Gala: Rooted in Staten Island held at the Vanderbilt at South Beach. The Museum honored historian Barnett Shepherd, science educator Clay Wollney, and clean energy provider Level Solar with the prestigious Leng and Davis Award, which is named for two of the Museum’s founders.
The event was emceed by comedian and Impractical Jokers producer Jay Miller. Notable guests included Ingrid Michaelson, indie musician and former honoree; Casey Jost, producer for TruTV’s Impractical Jokers, host and producer for Impractical Jokers: Inside Jokes; New York State Assembly Member Nicole Malliotakis; and Deputy Borough President Edward Burke, a former honoree.
Board Member Alan Tepper, along with his wife Barbara, and daughter Naomi made a surprise announcement during the evening that they were donating $2,000 from the Sam Tepper Memorial Foundation to support youth science education programing at the Museum and encouraged other guests to also give generously.
Guests walked away with gift bags full of Museum goodies including The Staten Island Ferry: A History by Patricia Salmon, a flash drive loaded with images from the Museum’s collection, and other Museum swag.
