Say goodbye to the Year of the Dog and hello to the Year of the Pig! The Museum will celebrate Lunar New Year with the Korean Community Development Center. Enjoy art activities, performances, traditional Korean clothing (hanbok), games, customary Lunar New Year refreshments, and so much more!

In collaboration with the Korean Community Development Center 

(Museum admission is a suggested $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $2 for children 2-12, Free for Museum Members and children under 2)

Event Schedule:

1pm – Traditional Royal Greeting by Ms. Lee Kumwon in the Lobby

1pm-2pm – Face painting

1pm-3pm – Hanji Art
Space is limited. $5 materials fee. Sign up at the Admissions Desk in the lobby.
Hanji refers to handmade Korean paper. In addition to sheets used for writing, it is used to make a range of objects. These include fans which we will be making today.

2pm – Korean Fan Dance 부채춤 (Boo chae chum) is taken from the Korean words Buchae which means fan and Chum which means dance. This exuberant dance displays beautifully painted large fans forming various geometrical shapes, such as butterflies, a flower in full bloom, or a sea wave.

3pm – Drum Performance 난타 (Nan-ta)

Enjoy dipping your own Tteok (rice cake) into a variety of sweet sauces, Mandu (dumplings), Tteok-guk 뗙국(rice cake soup), Jap-chae (sticky noodles with vegetables), Aloha Aloe Drinks, and more delicious treats!

Try on a Hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and practice your Sae-bae (traditional bow) in the Mastadon Gallery.

Learn how to play party games such as To-Hoh and Konki!
